Rising on the western slopes of Divis Mountain, the Crumlin River flows for around 12 miles from its boggy source in the Belfast Hills, through rich pasture and a steep wooded ravine before finally entering Lough Neagh just west of Crumlin town. The river holds good stocks of native brown trout which can be caught throughout the season from 1st March to 31st October. Later in the season, from August to October, Atlantic Salmon and Dollaghan enter the river and make the annual migration to their spawning grounds, made accessible thanks to two fish passes recently built by the Crumlin and District Angling Club. The Club owns the fishing rights to the entire river and its tributaries. An FCB rod licence and a permit from the Club are required to fish the river. Further details can be found on the relevant section of this site. Stands for anglers with disabilities and car parking facilities are available in Crumlin Glen.
